Matthews Hall, dating from 1928 and named after its builder and donor James Woodrow Matthews has been a community focus for 80 years. Originally a cinema, it has two public rooms seating up to 250 and 60 persons, and it is used by Societies, Associations and businesses for commercial, educational and leisure activities, for which it has a license under the Licensing Act 2003. The hall has recently been thoroughly modernised. It comprises: Main hall. (180m2) with added stage with lighting and dressing rooms. It has a recently renovated maple floor which is suitable for badminton and dancing. It seats up to 250 persons; On the first floor is a smaller Council Chamber with stair lift access. In the entrance area there is a café bar, disabled WC, ramp to entrance area, The café bar is available for renting together with the main hall, thus providing a first class venue for receptions, dinners, dances, concerts, plays, lectures and other entertainments. A public car park adjoins the building with adjacent disabled access. Every Saturday there is a community market which is very popular, selling locally sourced foods and fresh produce, antiques, curios, bric a brac, metalwork and plants.. On Saturday and Sunday mornings the café bar is open to the public for coffees, refreshments and light lunches Booking Matthews Hall The facilities are extensive and charges competitive.
